Description
Forklift Training Overview
Forklifts, or powered industrial trucks, are essential for lifting and transporting materials in construction and other industries. OSHA requires all forklift operators to be certified through formal instruction, hands-on training, and a performance evaluation.
Learning Objectives
Participants will learn to:
- Identify appropriate uses for various forklift types
- Understand forklift stability and its importance
- Perform safe operational procedures, including load handling
- Apply safety practices to prevent accidents
- Recognize the importance of routine inspections and maintenance
- Access OSHA and government resources for workplace safety
OSHA Standard 1910.178 mandates that all forklift operators complete:
- Formal instruction (e.g., lectures, videos)
- Practical training (hands-on driving)
- A performance evaluation
